BRIGHT STAR DAY NURSERY
Here you can read everything there is to know about Bright Star Day Nursery, whether you're concerned about your child's first day or want to find out more about working with us, have a look at the information provided below. Our nurseries are based in Kilburn & Chingford.
Welcoming Your Little Stars!
This is the most important part of a child’s introduction to their Nursery, for this reason it should be carefully planned.
We recommend a settling-in week prior to the child’s start date, to give both children and parents a chance to adjust to a nursery in a relaxed way. Coming to the Nursery is an exciting, happy and sometimes a scary experience. The settling-in week is free of charge and allows both you and your child to become familiar with nursery life and your child to gradually get used to coming to the Nursery and leaving you, their parent.
How It Works
We suggest that in the beginning a parent stays with the child for short visits to the Nursery, later as the child becomes more confident, the parent can leave the Nursery for a short time, making this period longer each time, until the child stays for a full session without the parent.
Making The Arrangements
The settling-in period usually lasts for one week, but you can discuss with the Nursery Manager and the child’s key person so it can be tailored to you and your child’s needs. The exact program for each settling-in period will depend on the individual child.
WORKING WITH PARENTS
We believe that you the parent are a child’s first educators and know their child the best, we welcome and value your knowledge, observations and insight regarding your child’s education. Our staff will be able to provide details of your child’s day when you arrive to collect them, should you require extra time regarding a particular issue, a mutually convenient time will be arranged to discuss any issue at length.
Children in the baby and toddler rooms will have a daily contact sheet and the pre-school room an information board. These will monitor how your child’s day has been for example, feeding, toileting and sleeping.
Developmental reviews will be held regularly between yourselves and carers to discuss your child’s progress, from this a developmental plan will be drawn up, outlining clear aims and goals to benefit the learning potential of your child
We actively encourage parental involvement within the nursery and any comments, ideas and suggestions you have are very welcome. We would love you to, if possible come in and play or join in with other activities throughout the year.
Also to coincide with and compliment the two-year health checks given by your health visitor, the nursery will spend time with you to complete a two year progress check alongside our other reviews.
At Bright Star Day Nursery all our meals, snacks and drinks are prepared daily by our experience cook in our kitchen.
We aim to provide a healthy, nutritious, varied and well balanced diet for all our children.
We are able to cater for all dietary needs, including those required by young babies. Weaning starts with freshly prepared vegetables and fruit purees and then gradually we introduce meat, fish, texture and more variety until the child is able to have the standard nursery menu.
During this process solid food is prepared to suit each baby’s individual tastes and needs
RISING STARS (UNDER 2'S)
Our under 2 room care for up to 16 children, with a staff ratio of 1:3.
Bright Star Day Nursery offers a safe and stimulated environment for you baby. Babies have their own quiet, homely area and a team of caring, dedicated staff. A key person from the team will build a warm relationship with your baby, helping your baby feel settled and secure during the nursery day. The key person will also work with you to learn about your baby’s routine and individual needs. You will be given a daily record that tells you about your child’s mealtimes, sleep times and nappy changes. Your baby’s key person will also be able to share information and discuss your child’s development.
In our baby area there is lots of space for rolling, crawling and learning to walk. This play area is designed to provide a stimulating environment for your child. Some key features are; the sensory area ( includes heuristic play- this revolves around the use of treasure baskets and encourages babies to discover and learn about their world through sensory motor development whilst providing them with rich mental stimulation, all of which develops their confidence and concentration) and the snuggle area. Your child's key person will work closely with you to develop a nursery routine that meets your wishes.
Your baby will be provided with fresh, clean bedding every day. Nappies, formula milk and a change of clothes have to be provided by parents/carers.
At Bright Star our staff allow your baby to lead activities and games. This means that we are guided by what is interesting and exciting to your baby, as an individual. Bright Star staff will work with your child within the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage' framework. The framework will be promoted through well planned experiences based upon children's spontaneous play both indoors and out. Based upon this, staff will deliver personalised learning, development and care to help children to get the best possible start in life.
Staff will provide a warm and comfortable environment for the babies where there will be a number of activities such as messy play, music and treasure baskets for children to explore their senses. Babies will have the opportunity to go outside throughout the day.
